Merry Christmas to you all!

Welcome this evening to worship at 6:00 PM for a time set apart together to celebrate the Gift of God’s love in Christ Jesus.

In Scripture and song, we turn together to glorify Him “whose goings forth have been from of old, even from everlasting”. (Micah 5:2)

We may wonder how to best express our love for the living Lamb. Praise God for the gifts He sends through musicians, writers, singers and artists across the centuries.

Christmas carols weave golden threads of memory with life-giving biblical truth. In carols like “Joy to the World” the impact of the Gospel upon all of creation is seen focused on the real joy Christ brings into every heart. New songs bring the fresh impact of those same truths in ways that help young and old get a taste of “newness of life in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:4)

The living Word chose to meet us on our turf. God made His dwelling in the real vessel of a newly created human body in its tiniest and most vulnerable form

When the prophet Micah declared His birth a certainty over 720 years prior to Bethlehem’s brightest night, that promise of the tiny village in Jerusalem’s shadow became a cornerstone of the real Christmas.

I see a real Christmas in the eyes of children whose laughter and curiosity light up each room where they learn and play.

I see a real Christmas in quiet acts of kindness by followers of Jesus who give, serve, lead and invest their energies in making His love known to others.

I see a real Christmas in the pregnancy center volunteers who see each unborn baby as a priceless gift from God and work to help moms succeed

I see a real Christmas in the missionaries who plan, pray, prepare and dedicate their lives to bringing the good news of Jesus to those who haven’t heard.

I see a real Christmas in the faith-empowered service of Hospice nurses and ICU staff who care deeply for patients in the extremities of life

I see a real Christmas in the face of a weary worker in a demanding ministry who aims to elevate others by keeping a cheerful spirit simply out of love for Jesus.

I see a real Christmas in the generosity of those who see their church as a “greenhouse” for growing deep roots in Scripture and strong bonds of love.

I see a real Christmas in moms and dads who actively aim for the prize of cultivating love for Christ and His Kingdom in the hearts of their kids

Real Christmas meets each of us in the surprising simplicity of a Nativity nestled in the earth, but it doesn’t leave us there. The manger scene is the starting point of a fascinating journey. Adoration for our King and honor for His Name travels with us as we learn to receive a love we could never begin to deserve.

Our celebration of the virgin-born Messiah and His redeeming grace is a tiny foretaste of His glory that can make the very best of Christmas real to every heart.

It’s such a joy to be with you and to welcome guests for worship tonight (December 23rd) and tomorrow, Christmas Eve Sunday morning.
